July 2011

Dear Students, Parents, Colleagues, and Community Members:

July 1, 2011 was my first day on the job. I am happy to report that I am officially part of the East Windsor Public School family!  In the upcoming days, I hope to meet and speak with many of you at our school and community functions. I am anxious to learn your perspective of our schools; what is working and how we can improve.

Summer may be considered a time for relaxation, but at the East Windsor Public Schools we are busy making preparations for the upcoming school year. We are committed to your child’s success and look forward to strengthening the partnership between your family and ours. As the school year draws closer, please check back on our website for important information pertaining to the school year.

I hope your remaining summer days are filled with happiness, great books and conversation, good health, and laughter.

Take care,

Theresa Kane
Superintendent

ABOUT OUR SCHOOLS

Mission Statement:

The East Windsor Public Schools provide a climate that inspires the school community to achieve their full potential through continuous improvement, mutual trust and respect. A rigorous curriculum taught by outstanding educators motivates students to acquire fundamental, critical thinking, and problem solving skills necessary to become lifelong learners and productive members of a global and diverse society.

East Windsor School District

East Windsor’s schools service approximately 1,400 students within the villages of Warehouse Point, Broad Brook, Melrose, Scantic and Windsorville. The administrative team includes nine professionals throughout the district—a principal and assistant principal in each of East Windsor’s three schools; Directors of Curriculum and Special Education; and the Superintendent of Schools. East Windsor is a leader in the implementation and effective use of technology in education, continuous standards-based curriculum development, and data-driven, student-centered, differentiated instructional strategies. A leader is sought who will continue to promote positive changes within the schools and the community.

East Windsor High School

East Windsor High School services approximately three hundred seventy five students in grades 9-12. As an established professional learning community, teachers instruct students utilizing standards-based curriculum. Continuous improvement is monitored through data driven decision making and systems of intervention. Students attending East Windsor High School experience a climate of respect and high expectations.

East Windsor Middle School

East Windsor Middle School has four hundred students enrolled in grades five through eight. Faculty and staff at EWMS have been instrumental in testing and perfecting models of tiered interventions, differentiating instruction to meet student needs, and ensuring that students are adequately prepared for their high school career. As a feeder to East Windsor High School, EWMS staffers strongly encourage students to consider East Windsor High School first and foremost.

Broad Brook Elementary School

The Broad Brook School has nearly six hundred students in grades Pre-K through 4, as well as providing support for the town Family Resource Center, summer school programs, and daycare (through FRC). The Broad Brook Elementary student population enjoys small class sizes and a comprehensive array of “specials” programs. Differentiated instruction and literacy intervention programs have recently been introduced and are already reaping positive results on the latest CMT score reports.

The Town of East Windsor

The Town of East Windsor is in north central Connecticut, on the Interstate 91 corridor midway between Hartford and Springfield, Mass. This small New England community has a population of approximately 11,000. East Windsor is known for its pastoral beauty—acres of rolling fields and woodlands blanket the town. A rural community with a primarily agricultural economy, it is within minutes of Bradley International Airport and is convenient to numerous local colleges, museums, theatres, libraries and other cultural centers.
