Students are faced with many important decisions in their high school years at a time when they are rapidly growing and changing. It is a difficult and challenging period for young people, as they mature from the dependence of childhood to become independent adults. The intention of the guidance counselors is to provide a place where students can come to confidentially discuss both personal and academic matters and their feelings and emotions in an atmosphere of understanding and respect. We strive to help students develop and appreciate their sense of self-worth, build constructive relationships with others, and to practice responsible, assertive behavior.

Academic counseling focuses on helping the student develop decision making and problem solving skills. Students are helped to set personal and academic goals and to review them on an on-going basis so that appropriate decisions can be made to meet each individual's needs. Counseling, as practiced at East Windsor, seeks to be supportive in assisting students to make proper selections of courses in a program of study that will prepare them for their vocational and educational goals. The top priority of the counselors is focused on the individual student and his or her total development to assist their emergence as a more competent, independent decision maker.

The overall intentions of the Guidance Department include assisting students in the following ways:

to understand the school environment
to understand self and others
to develop decision making and problem solving skills
to develop interpersonal and communication skills
to develop moral and ethical values
to develop school success skills
to develop career awareness and education plans
to develop a sense of community

The East Windsor Guidance Department takes pride in its interaction with students and families. From the first welcoming as a freshman to the last handshake at graduation, the staff offers information and support to prepare students for each benchmark as they move toward the future. We look forward to working with you. Contact us at 860-623-4426 or send email to:
