For Students at Broad Brook: The following instructional focus was selected. “All BBS students will show measurable growth in reading comprehension by using the structure of the workshop model and focusing on specific Marzano Instructional Strategies as measured by the Benchmark Assessment System (BAS), grade level Common Formative Assessments (CFA) and the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT).”

In student friendly language it reads “At Broad Brook School- We read, we think, we share our thinking, we succeed!”

For Teachers at Broad Brook: Five promising practices have been selected: Think, Pair, Share, Questioning, Modeling, Visual Clues, and Differentiated Instruction.

For Students at East Windsor Middle School: The instructional focus of EWMS is for all students to show measurable growth in reading comprehension across all curricular areas, as measured by standards-based assessments, including EWPS benchmarks, formative and summative assessments, the CMT, and STAR assessments.

The student friendly instructional focus reads “The goal of EWMS is for all students to make gains in reading comprehension in all subject areas over time.  These gains will be measured by teacher-created tests, benchmarks, CMT, and STAR assessments.”

For Teachers at East Windsor Middle School: Three promising practices were selected: Questioning, Making Connections and Vocabulary

For Students at East Windsor High School: The instructional focus: “A coordinated school wide effort to provide opportunities for all students to demonstrate growth of problem-solving skills in all disciplines as measured by the state and district assessments.”

For Teachers at East Windsor High School: One promising practice, Setting Objectives, has been selected. Other practices have been discussed with the PLC leadership group. A selection of 2 more promising practices is expected by the end of October.

For Administration: Re-align resources (people, time, talent, energy, and money) to support the instructional focus.

We have a great deal of work to accomplish in order to improve student performance. By working together, we can chart the course for our district turnaround. I am proud to be part of a community that is so dedicated to our students. It is an honor to work along side of you in our journey toward success for all.

ABOUT OUR SCHOOLS

Mission Statement:

The East Windsor Public Schools provide a climate that inspires the school community to achieve their full potential through continuous improvement, mutual trust and respect. A rigorous curriculum taught by outstanding educators motivates students to acquire fundamental, critical thinking, and problem solving skills necessary to become lifelong learners and productive members of a global and diverse society.

East Windsor School District

East Windsor’s schools service approximately 1,400 students within the villages of Warehouse Point, Broad Brook, Melrose, Scantic and Windsorville. The administrative team includes nine professionals throughout the district—a principal and assistant principal in each of East Windsor’s three schools; Directors of Curriculum and Special Education; and the Superintendent of Schools.

East Windsor High School

East Windsor High School services approximately three hundred seventy five students in grades 9-12. As an established professional learning community, teachers instruct students utilizing standards-based curriculum. Continuous improvement is monitored through data driven decision making and systems of intervention. Students attending East Windsor High School experience a climate of respect and high expectations.

East Windsor Middle School

East Windsor Middle School has four hundred students enrolled in grades five through eight. Faculty and staff at EWMS have been instrumental in testing and perfecting models of tiered interventions, differentiating instruction to meet student needs, and ensuring that students are adequately prepared for their high school career. As a feeder to East Windsor High School, EWMS staffers strongly encourage students to consider East Windsor High School first and foremost.

Broad Brook Elementary School

The Broad Brook School has nearly six hundred students in grades Pre-K through 4, as well as providing support for the town Family Resource Center, summer school programs, and daycare (through FRC). The Broad Brook Elementary student population enjoys small class sizes and a comprehensive array of “specials” programs. Differentiated instruction and literacy intervention programs have recently been introduced and are already reaping positive results on the latest CMT score reports.

The Town of East Windsor
